As far as toxic relationships go - hand soaps carry a lot of baggage!
Until recently, many hand soaps (as well as other consumer products such as body washes and toothpaste) contained the chemical triclosan, which was used as an active antiseptic in an estimated 40% of all soaps sold in the United States. Triclosan is an endocrine-disrupting chemical, and in 2016 the FDA banned the sale of consumer hand washes containing triclosan over concerns that it is not only unsafe (it may lead to development of allergies and bacterial resistance, cause skin irritation, and even disrupt proper hormone function), but also ineffective (in the FDA’s study, triclosan was not shown to be more effective than regular soap and water). Needless to say, we think you deserve better - and we’re glad the FDA agrees!
Unfortunately, although the FDA has made a step in the right direction with banning triclosan, many popular hand soaps still contain parabens, phthalates, alcohol ethoxylates, synthetic dyes & fragrances, and a host of other harmful chemicals. That’s why we made Molly’s Suds Foaming Hand Wash, a safer, simpler alternative that works (and smells!) just as great as conventional hand soaps without the risk.
